Size-effects in crystal plasticity Internal stresses in FCC metals

We are interested in investigating the role of microstructural discreteness in the strengthening and failure of polymeric materials. At one end of this spectrum, we numerically probe the hygroscopically induced failure in fiber reinforced composites with special focus on the variability that arises due to randomness in microstructural details. At the other end, we are interested in much softer bio-polymeric materials with a view of understanding their mechanics of rate-dependent elasticity and failure. Again, the emphasis on the role of microstructural discreteness that are ubiquitous in these fibrous architectures and the variability in the response arising thereof.
